The Inner Copmass

  • Project Type: Book cover / editorial design

  • Goal: Create a visually engaging and age-appropriate cover for a middle-grade character development book

The Inner Compass is a cover design for a middle-grade book focused on self-reflection, values, and personal growth. The goal was to create a visual identity that feels engaging and approachable for younger readers while also expressing themes of guidance, trust, and emotional development. By combining dynamic typography with the symbolic image of a compass, the final design creates a balance between playfulness and meaning, resulting in a cover that feels warm, thoughtful, and age-appropriate.

The selected colors were chosen to balance playfulness with meaning while reflecting the book’s themes of guidance, reflection, and growth. Soft blues and warm neutrals create an inviting and thoughtful mood, while coral and navy add contrast, energy, and visual focus. The palette was also developed to align with the existing interior graphics, helping the cover feel cohesive with the book as a whole.

The final cover brings together expressive typography, symbolic imagery, and a cohesive color palette to communicate the book’s themes in a clear and engaging way. The composition was developed to feel playful and approachable for a middle-grade audience while still reflecting ideas of guidance, growth, and reflection.
